According to a Facebook post by Olmstead, “my love affair with horses started around the time I learnt to walk,” though she didn’t receive her first “all mine” horse until she was an adult.
Melanie had posted a photo of her horse Mahogany, along with a lengthy status update on her affinity for equines on her personal Facebook page: About the time I was learning to walk, I fell in love with horses, but it wasn’t until I was an adult that I was able to purchase a horse that was all mine. For my non-horsey friends, that’s over 100 in human years, and this gorgeous, magnificent girl has been with me since college and she’s still doing great!
She has been active in the industry since the year 2000, during which time she has worked as a driver and location assistant on the sets of numerous well-known films and television shows, including Hereditary, Good Joe Bell, Point Break, John Carter, 12 Dogs of Christmas: Great Puppy Rescue, Jackie & Ryan, Wind River, Snatchers, Andi Mack, and many others. Since her contributions to TV production are often overlooked, it’s great to see the Yellowstone crew paying tribute to her work in this way.

Olmstead passed away at the age of 50 as a result of complications caused by cancer. She was survived by her husband in addition to their three children.At the presence of her family and her spouse, Annalise Ford, she passed suddenly in her home in Salt Lake City two days before the second season of Yellowstone was scheduled to air.
