Today, Amazon formally confirmed its ambitions to launch a new TV programme based on the iconic God of War games. This matches a prior rumour from March that the business was attempting to turn the iconic PlayStation property into a streaming series.
Deadline revealed in March that Amazon was in discussions with Sony to convert the blockbuster gaming franchise into a big-budget streaming TV programme. At the time it was rumoured that the creators and executive producers of The Expanse, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, together with The Wheel of Time’s executive producer and showrunner, Rafe Judkins, would manage the project with assistance from Sony and PlayStation. Today Amazon verified that report was correct.
The Amazon Prime Video Twitter account teased the upcoming release of God of War on PlayStation 4 with the simple word, “God of War is coming,” coupled with a screenshot of Kratos and Atreus from the game. Additional information from Amazon was provided by The Hollywood Reporter and corroborated the March reports. The roles of showrunner and executive producer have been filled: Judkins will lead the programme, while Fergus and Ostby will pen scripts and oversee production. Sony Pictures TV, Amazon Studios, and PlayStation Productions will all work together on the project.
It was in 2018 when the much anticipated God of War was finally launched, and it was met with universal praise. In 2022, the sequel God of War: Ragnarok was published, and it quickly became a strong candidate for several Game of the Year awards.
Instead, Prime Video is adopting more than simply God of War. The producers of Westworld have recently shown the first picture from their live-action Fallout series for the firm.
