On March 24, 1965, Mark William Calaway was born in Houston, Texas. The fifth and last son, he is. He played basketball and football at Waltrip High School. He attended Angelina College, which is located about 115 miles northeast of Houston in Lufkin, Texas.
He received free college tuition in 1983 as a result of his basketball prowess. He relocated to Texas Wesleyan University in 1985 to pursue a degree in sports management and to play basketball. He gave up on college in 1986. He briefly considered playing professional basketball in Europe, but ultimately chose to concentrate on wrestling.
With World Class Championship Wrestling, The Undertaker debuted in the ring in 1984. In 1989, he signed on with WCW and was dubbed “Mean Mark Callous” by the company’s announcers.
