Chris Estrada’s This Fool, a critically acclaimed comedy series, has been picked up for a second season on Hulu. Inspired by real-life experiences, comedian-turned-actor Estrada creates and stars in a scripted television series about a 30-year-old named Julio Lopez (Estrada) who is always there to assist out everyone else but himself. The show has been a hit with reviewers and viewers alike since its August launch thanks to its refreshingly realistic and hilarious examination of the importance of family.
This Fool follows Julio as he lives a simple but significant life in working-class South Central Los Angeles. He avoids his troubles at any costs, even staying at home with his mother and rekindling his connection with his high school sweetheart. But when it comes to doing good for others, he’s in the thick of things: he works with the non-profit Hugs Not Thugs, which assists formerly incarcerated members of criminal gangs in making the transition back into society. The situation becomes more confusing and humorous when one of the ex-convicts that Julio meets in the programme turns out to be none other than his elder cousin Luis (Frankie Quiones), who moves in with Julio’s family and constantly buts heads with him.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the critics gave the first season an ideal score of 100%, and viewers gave it an average score of 91% after watching all 10 episodes.
