Sydney Sweeney Barbarella remake

Sydney Sweeney has been cast as the lead and will also serve as an executive producer in a new adaptation of the Jean-Claude Forest comic series Barbarella, which was previously adapted into a film starring Jane Fonda in 1968. Sweeney has worked with Sony Pictures previously, most notably in the Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web, in which she co-starred with Dakota Johnson. The rights to adapt Madison Lawson’s novel The Registration have apparently been purchased by Sony, and the actress is preparing to feature in and produce the film.

Sweeney will be replacing Fonda in the title role of Barbarella by teaming up with Sony Pictures once again. No writer or director has apparently been hired for the remake of the science fiction film, and production is said to be in its earliest stages.We can expect that the movie will be released in the end of year 2023 or in early 2024.

Although details about this adaptation are limited, the 1968 film directed by Roger Vadim portrays an astronaut from the 41st century who embarks on a mission to track down and destroy the villainous scientist Durand Durand, whose Positronic Ray threatens to restore evil to the galaxy. While movie didn’t do well at the box office, “The Forest” has since become a cult classic, and in 2020, the estate of actor and director Mark Forest revealed that he was planning a sequel.
