This year, 2023, will be a watershed year for Robin Roberts.Roberts announced her engagement to longtime lover Amber Laign during a talk with author and motivational speaker Gabby Bernstein about making resolutions for the new year.
The “Good Morning America” co-host initially stated she was hesitant to share her desire because “I haven’t said it out loud yet.”
Roberts said, “I’m saying ‘yes’ to marriage.” We’re planning a wedding for later this year.Roberts has been in a relationship with Laign since 2005, and they have repeatedly delayed getting married. And then she got sick.
Roberts revealed Laign’s illness with cancer in February of last year.
“My dear Amber has asked me to share some tough news about a recent struggle she’s had to endure. Amber was diagnosed with breast cancer at year’s end “the newscaster explained in a Twitter video. “Earlier this month, she underwent surgery, and now, she starts chemotherapy. The prognosis, thankfully, looks promising.”
“Autumnal Amber, She has reached a significant milestone in her treatment: the end of radiotherapy. Both of us appreciate your thoughts and prayers, and we wanted to express our gratitude via the video’s caption. I am very impressed by her strength and poise in the face of adversity, and the strength and poise displayed by all of my fellow Thrivers.
Roberts herself received a breast cancer diagnosis in 2007, and later learned she had the rare blood illness myelodysplastic syndrome, leading her to undergo a bone marrow transplant and radiation treatment (MDS). The ordeal she went through to become well was covered on Good Morning America and in a 20/20 episode.
There has been a recent surge in the number of same-sex couples getting married around the country, which the couple hopes to capitalise on by getting hitched.
Data from the Census Bureau’s annual American Community Survey released in November showed that the number of same-sex couple households in the United States had reached 1 million for the first time.
