Starlink and its Internet Services

Most of you will remember Elon Musk as one of the richest people on the planet. Few people will remember him because of his electric car company Tesla and others because of his space exploration company SpaceX, but you may not remember him from Starlink Satellite Company. It sells Internet services all over the world.

Starlink will be developing rapidly in 2021. In February of this year, Elon Musk’s company announced that it serves more than 10,000 customers. The project also expanded the bookings of more potential customers. The main priority of the service is to serve people who cannot access a high-speed Internet connection.

SpaceX expects Starlink to reach global service levels sometime between September and December, but regional availability depends on regulatory approval. Elon Musk told the audience at the Mobile World Congress in June this year that the satellite Internet company will provide services worldwide from August this year, with the exception of the Arctic and Antarctic.

This extensive Internet service has also caused a lot of controversy, because members of the scientific community raised questions about the impact of Starlink low-earth orbit satellites on visibility in the night sky. Starlink’s competitors such as Viasat, HughesNet and Amazon Kuiper Project have already spoken out. Has begun to contain Elon Musk, triggering a lot of regulatory competition.

Starlink is an orbiting satellite network owned by SpaceX. It was developed in 2015 and the first prototype satellite was launched in 2018. SpaceX successfully put nearly 1,000 Starlink satellites into orbit. As part of the Starlink 2021 mission, SpaceX used the Falcon 9 rocket in orbit to launch 60 satellites from the Kennedy Space Center. The last launch was on May 26. The constellation has a total of 1,737 satellites.

The cost of this service is currently US$99 per month, plus taxes, fees, and a US$500 deposit for installing satellite antennas and routers. Starlink is accepting reservations from customers who wish to participate in the service through its Better Than Nothing beta program. The company said it uses first-come, first-served orders, so the order may also take six months.

Most people suspect that $99 a month is a huge sum. Although the speed is slower than other fiber-optic Internet connections, Musk believes this service is worthwhile. The company also stated that it currently has no plans to increase the speed or price level, but the initial receiving appliance price of $500 may drop within a few years.
