‘Furiosa’ Stuns CinemaCon with Explosive First Look at Anya Taylor-Joy’s Warrior Origins
LAS VEGAS – Director George Miller, along with stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hems worth, electrified the crowd at CinemaCon on Tuesday with an extended first look at the highly anticipated Mad Max prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
The explosive footage, unveiled by Warner Bros. Pictures offered a tantalizing glimpse into the origins of the fierce warrior Furiosa, first portrayed by Charlize Theron in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.
The five-minute sneak peek, divided into chapters such as “Her Odyssey Begins,” “A Warrior Awakens,” and “Ride Into Vengeance,” showcased Furiosa’s harrowing journey spanning 16-18 years.
The clip primarily focused on her battle against the ruthless Warlord of Dementus, played by Chris Hems worth, as she fights to return to her homeland, the Green Place of Many Mothers.
During a Q&A session, Miller revealed that the idea for Furiosa was born during the development of Fury Road, as the team crafted extensive backstories for the characters.
“To tell the story of Fury Road, which takes place over three days and two nights, a lot of backstory had to be written,” Miller explained. “We wrote the story of Furiosa in the 15 or 16 years before she’s introduced in Fury Road.”
Anya Taylor-Joy, who takes on the titular role, described Furiosa as “the story of one woman’s relentless commitment to impossible hope,” while Hems worth characterized it as “one man’s descent into madness.

“Both actors expressed their excitement about being part of the project, with Taylor-Joy praising Theron’s portrayal in Fury Road and Hems worth calling Miller a “godlike figure“ he grew up admiring in Australia.
Miller had high praise for his lead actors, describing Taylor-Joy as “resolute, very disciplined, and very smart“ and Hems worth as someone with “a lot of dimensions.”
Hems worth, in turn, shared his approach to portraying the complex villain Dementus, emphasizing the need to balance “layers of charm, wit, humor, spontaneity, and darkness.”
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is set for release on May 24, 2024, and is expected to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, following in the footsteps of Fury Road‘s successful debut in 2015.
The film has already generated significant buzz among fans and industry professionals alike, with many eagerly anticipating Miller’s return to the post-apocalyptic universe he created over four decades ago.
As CinemaCon continues, running from April 8-11 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, more than 6,000 motion picture professionals from various sectors of the industry are expected to attend, setting the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable cinematic event with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga leading the charge.
