‘Freaky Friday’ Sequel Reunites Lohan and Curtis, 20 Years Later
It’s official – the long-awaited sequel to the beloved 2003 comedy Freaky Friday is finally happening, with original stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis set to reprise their roles.
Disney has greenlit Freaky Friday 2, which will catch up with the body-swapping mother-daughter duo Anna and Tess Coleman two decades after their original misadventures.
Lohan and Curtis Both “Excited” to Return
Lohan, 37, confirmed the sequel is in the works during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live. “It is,” she said, when asked about Freaky Friday 2. “And we’re both excited. I’m gonna speak for Jamie.“
The actress played coy on further details like timing, saying “I don’t want to say too much.“
Curtis, 65, has also expressed enthusiasm about switching places with Lohan again on screen.
“As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday,” the Oscar-winner told The New York Times last year. “Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’“
New Director Tapped as Plot Details Emerge
Freaky Friday 2 will be helmed by Nisha Ganatra, known for directing Late Night and The High Note.
While the sequel’s storyline is being kept under wraps, casting calls hint that this time around, a grown-up Anna, now a mom herself, may find herself swapping bodies with her own teenage daughter.
Curtis has playfully pitched Lohan getting to “be the sexy grandma who’s still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon.“

Where Are They Now?
In the years since Freaky Friday made them a memorable comedic duo, both Lohan and Curtis have remained in the spotlight:
- Lohan took a break from acting in the 2010s but has recently made a comeback in Netflix holiday rom-coms. She welcomed her first child with husband Bader Shammas in 2023.
- Curtis won her first Oscar in 2023 for Everything Everywhere All at Once and has continued her reign as a horror icon in the Halloween franchise.
As for the rest of the original cast:
- Chad Michael Murray, who played Anna’s crush Jake, went on to teen heartthrob status in One Tree Hill and A Cinderella Story.
- Mark Harmon, who portrayed Tess’s fiancé Ryan, starred on NCIS for 19 seasons.
- The actors behind Anna’s friends and bandmates have continued working steadily in TV and film.
