Dolly Parton and her eleven siblings grew up on the family’s tobacco farm in Sevier County, Tennessee, where she was born on January 19, 1946.

She claims her family was so destitute that her dad tipped the doctor who helped deliver her with a bag of oatmeal.

Parton began her music career at a young age, when she was signed to the modest Louisiana company Goldband Records and began making television appearances.

Dolly Parton Career

At the tender age of 10, Parton made her television debut. The following year, in 1967, she launched a successful partnership with comedian Porter Wagoner on the Porter Wagoner Show. She was able to secure a recording contract with RCA Records thanks in large part to this collaboration.
