Dolly Parton and her eleven siblings grew up on the family’s tobacco farm in Sevier County, Tennessee, where she was born on January 19, 1946.
She claims her family was so destitute that her dad tipped the doctor who helped deliver her with a bag of oatmeal.
Parton began her music career at a young age, when she was signed to the modest Louisiana company Goldband Records and began making television appearances.

Dolly Parton Career
At the tender age of 10, Parton made her television debut. The following year, in 1967, she launched a successful partnership with comedian Porter Wagoner on the Porter Wagoner Show. She was able to secure a recording contract with RCA Records thanks in large part to this collaboration.
Her first single, a duet with Porter Wagoner covering Tom Paxton’s “The Last Thing on My Mind,” was released by RCA Records in 1967 and made it into the country top ten in the first few months of 1968. her first crossover hit, was released in 1977 and quickly became a #1 hit on both the Pop and Country Music charts. This performance earned her the first of her two Grammys in 1978.
From 1999 on, she released an album series influenced by Bluegrass music, a subgenre of American country music. The Grass is Blue, Little Sparrow, Halo & Horns, and Those Were the Days are the four albums she released.She also received an Oscar nod in 2005 for her work on the film Transamerica, for which she composed the song “Travelin’ Thru.”Since then, she has been very productive, making appearances in musicals, producing an album of her own songs, etc. It was in 2013 when she and Kenny Rogers recorded the album You Can’t Make Old Friends together.
