‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Wows CinemaCon with Raunchy, Meta-Filled Footage
Marvel Studios dropped jaws at CinemaCon 2024 with an extended look at the highly anticipated ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, showcasing the Merc with a Mouth’s signature brand of irreverent, fourth-wall-breaking humor.
The nine minutes of footage, crafted specifically for the convention by director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Reynolds, had the crowd in stitches with its R-rated gags and playful jabs at the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The preview finds Wade Wilson retired from superhero life and working as a used car salesman. In classic Deadpool fashion, he makes a lewd remark while pitching a minivan to a family.
Later, at a surprise birthday party attended by familiar faces like Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa and Leslie Uggams’ Blind Al, Wade declines an offer of cocaine, quipping, “That’s the one thing that Kevin Feige has forbidden. It’s a Disney movie, remember?”
TVA Comes Knocking
The festivities are interrupted by the arrival of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) from ‘Loki’. After being knocked out and transported to TVA headquarters, Wade meets Mr. Paradox, played by ‘Succession’ star Matthew Macfadyen.
Paradox explains that Deadpool has been chosen for a higher purpose – to save the Sacred Timeline from an impending threat.
“I smell what you’re stepping in,” Deadpool tells him. “Your little cinematic universe is about to change forever. I am the Messiah. I am Marvel Jesus.”
Emboldened, Wade declares his intention to join the MCU, proclaiming, “Suck it Fox, I’m going to Disneyland. Get fucked.”
Wolverine’s Grand Entrance
The CinemaCon footage saved its biggest surprise for last, offering a tantalizing glimpse of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Though the clawed mutant doesn’t fully appear, the final shot shows Deadpool and Wolverine together in a car, with Wade poking fun at Logan’s yellow spandex costume.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting Jackman’s return since the announcement of his involvement in September 2022.
“Deadpool & Wolverine“ marks the actor’s first time playing the iconic role since 2017’s “Logan”, his ostensible swan song as the character.

MCU’s Raunchy Savior?
With the MCU’s post-“Avengers: Endgame” output drawing mixed reactions from fans and critics, many are hoping that “Deadpool & Wolverine” will be a shot in the arm for the franchise.
The CinemaCon preview suggests that Marvel is leaning into the R-rated irreverence that made the first two “Deadpool” films massive hits.
“Deadpool & Wolverine“ is set to hit theaters on July 26, 2024, as the MCU’s first R-rated theatrical release and the sole Marvel Studios film of the year.
With Reynolds and Jackman leading the charge, it promises to be a wild, hilarious ride that could very well change the face of the MCU as we know it.
