Best Movies on Hulu
Hulu isn’t always the first streaming service that comes to mind when thinking about where to watch holiday films, but it holds its own against larger competitors. When it comes to online streaming, Hulu is among the industry leaders when it comes to holiday-themed films. It features brand new material, some films that are so horrible they’re actually good, and future classics.
Christmas Like Brady (1988)
It was bittersweet to see the Brady family again after 14 years. No one noticed that they were both in the same film. Although the soft and rough around the edges 1983 TV movie didn’t do well at the box office, it nonetheless managed to attract a sizable audience. There are just too many discrepancies in the movie for anyone to take it seriously. The holiday special A Very Brady Christmas may win over even the most devoted Brady fans. Santa Claus: The Movie (1985)
The narrative of Santa Claus and his fight to save one of his elves from a greedy toy industry boss is told in this 1985 film starring Dudley Moore, John Lithgow, and David Huddleston. The PG rating means that the whole family may enjoy this nostalgic fantasy flick.
The Holiday
This film from 2006 has become an annual tradition for many people. This Nancy Meyers Christmas house-swap comedy stars Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black. (Must pay for premium access.
Noelle (2019)
As a second Christmas picture with an original story, Noelle stands out from the pack. Noelle and Nick play Santa’s daughter and son in the film. They will have to take over the family business when their father finally retires. In addition to being a delightful holiday film, it is also a superb portrayal of the special relationship between siblings, and there aren’t nearly enough films like this. However, it isn’t a film that young viewers should expect to enjoy. The movie could have used a lot more of this dry humour, but Bill Hader’s incomparable comedy performance saves the movie from being too mushy even when Noelle gets a little mushy near the end.
A Nasty Piece of Work (2019)
When a businessman learns he won’t be receiving a bonus, he is presented with a terrifying alternative to spending the holidays with his family. When his boss offers him a promotion to help him compete with a rival, things escalate violently. This Halloween chiller stars Molly Hagan, Natalie Hall, Kyle Howard, Dustin Milligan, and Julian Sands.
My Dad Is Scrooge (2014)
Through the help of their animal companions, two children are able to teach their grumpy father the true spirit of Christmas and save the family farm. Starring Brian Cook, Laurie Campbell, and Bonnie Wright, this 2014 comedy is a lovely watch.
Happiest Season (2020)
Happiest Season is the best of Hulu’s original Christmas films, but it still falls short of capturing the true spirit of the season. The film follows a woman who brings her girlfriend home for the holidays without notifying her family that she is gay.
The hilarious Happiest Season features an A-list cast of funny stars like Alison Brie and Aubrey Plaza. As an added bonus, it’s full of warmth and holiday cheer, and probably would’ve gained more notice if it weren’t exclusive to Hulu.
