Former Pointer Sisters member Anita Pointer passed away on Saturday at the age of 74. She had achieved popularity in the 1970s as a member of the group.

In a statement released Sunday, Neal revealed that Pointer had died on Saturday at her Los Angeles home, surrounded by her loved ones. It was cancer, he claimed.

“While we are very grieved by the loss of Anita, we are comforted in knowing that she is now with her daughter, Jada, and her sisters June and Bonnie and at peace,” Pointer’s family said in a statement. With Anita in heaven, the place has become even more caring and beautiful.

He said, “She was the glue that held us together for so long. The statement claimed that “her love for our family will live on in each of us” and asked that the family’s privacy be respected “during this period of grief and loss.”

Over fifty years ago, at the church where their father was a pastor in Oakland, California, the four sisters who would become known as the Pointer Sisters first sang together. In 1969, Bonnie Pointer and her younger sister June debuted as a singing pair in the music industry. After enlisting the help of their older sisters, Anita and Ruth, the group recorded their debut album in 1973.

Their 1974 crossover smash “Fairytale” earned them their first Grammy Award. Along with “Slow Hand,” “Neutron Dance,” and “Jump,” they are also well-known for other popular songs by the band.A joint statement ascribed to her sister Ruth, brothers Aaron and Fritz, and granddaughter Roxie McKain Pointer read, “While we are very grieved by the passing of Anita, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter, Jada, and her sisters June and Bonnie, and at peace.” He said, “She was the glue that held us together for so long. Her devotion to our family will be eternally reflected in our hearts. As we mourn the loss of a loved one, we ask that you please give us some space. Anita makes heaven a more lovely, loving place.
