The German sportswear company Adidas Originals (adidas Originals) has introduced the world to the first virtual wearables powered by the blockchain. Holders of the capsule collection, which debuted in May and was airdropped to Into The Metaverse (ITM) NFT holders who seized Phase 2, can now access all 16 pieces. Connecting the brand’s past and future, virtual and physical, communities and artists, culture and identity, the 16-piece collection is an artistic and cultural breakthrough for the company.

One of Adidas’s top executives discusses the debut of their NFT wearable

Vice President of Adidas Erika Wykes-Sneyd commented, “I adore the possibilities this collection represents for our most engaged community of holders” when discussing the introduction of NFT wearable. At the launch, capsule owners can either burn their capsules to reveal their virtual identities in adidas’ first Virtual Gear collection or share their capsules with others so that they can become part of the community. adidas places a premium on providing real value and lasting utility to its community of creators, therefore the company plans to investigate all possible Web3 utilities, platforms, and experiences in order to discover new avenues for its wearables.

According to the article, owners of Adidas Originals who have the Capsule NFT Collection can open and swap out their NFT to find out which of the 16 different pieces they were given. As a result, in order to get one of the 16 new digital wearable NFTs at random, consumers will need to “burn” their current Capsule NFT.

In addition, Nic Galway, Senior VP of Creative Direction for Adidas Originals, offered his thoughts on the line, noting that Adidas has always been one of those brands known for venturing out onto the creative frontier and probing the limits of the possible.

But Web3 provides our designers and colleagues with a fresh opportunity to envision and rethink the expression of our brand in hybrid realities, he continued.

On November 16th:

The new Virtual Gear collection will be available for purchase in all NFT marketplaces for those who do not currently own an adidas Originals: Capsule NFT. Those in the community who have already purchased an adidas virtual wearable NFT and an NFT from a compatible partner collection (BAYC, MAYC, Inhabitants) will soon have access to a PFP Tool that will allow them to “dress up” their NFT with their adidas virtual wearable.
